IN THE BEGINNING
An organizational meeting for the Jet Setters senior’s club was held November 17, 1977. Government grants were available and the club was formed in conjunction with the building of the new curling rink. Meetings and socializing were held in the upstairs club room of the curling rink.
The club was very social in its early years hosting other clubs from Indus, Arrowwood, Strathmore and Milo for such activities as cards, darts, shuffleboard as well as picnics at the park and trips including ones to Kananaskis and Lake Louise.
They also made many donations to charitable groups. In 1993 the newly formed Ag Society offered the club rent free space in their own separate room in the new community hall complex. In 1994 the Jet Setters had their first meeting in their wonderful new space. The club is still there – 37 years after its inception.
OUR PRESENT CLUB
Today we have over 80 members. Our meetings are the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month at 1:30 pm at the Jet Setters room in the Community Hall with the exception of July and August Our membership is $5.00 and is open to anyone over 55. Our first meeting of the month is when we take care of business: read the minutes, treasure’s report, discuss past and future plans etc. and if time permits, play games and socialize. The second meeting of the month is for games, cards, playing sports on our newly acquired Wii or just socializing. New exciting board games have recently been added to give lots of variety
The Jet Setters still make donations to charitable organizations, plan outings and at home functions and get involved and support other community functions. Every year we hold a picnic in June to end off our season for the summer and an “Annual Christmas Party” in December. Two popular events we sponsored locally within the last year were our “Senior’s and Grandparent’s Appreciation Tea” complete with entertainment and a “Grey Cup Party” for members and guests. An added enjoyment is when we book speakers and entertainers to come to our club.
Some of the outings of the club have been to Rosebud Theatre, Saskatoon Farm, Heritage Park, Glenbow Museum, Aspen Crossing Dinner Theatre, Drumheller and more. For interested members, we organize the purchase of season tickets for Stage West which is always a delight with the good food and excellent productions.
The Jet Setters were proud in 2015 to have 3 of our members enter in events in the “55+ summer games” in Strathmore, with one coming in a winner.
The Jet Setters work a casino whenever their turn comes up as one of their fund raisers. In the last few years, we have taken part in the annual “Aggie Days” parade and walked away with some winning ribbons.
We are delighted with our membership in the Jet Setters but are always welcoming more. If you require more information or would be interested in joining our social club please e-mail Sharon at email@example.com.
